Brooke Timmer was born May 24, 1980, in Waterloo, Iowa. She grew up in Aplington, and graduated from Wartburg College in Waverly in 2002. After graduation, Brooke traveled to New Zealand, Australia, England, Fiji, and South Korea.
Brooke attended Drake University Law School, where she served as Student Bar Association President during the 2005-2006 school year. She also served as Governor of the Eighth Circuit for the American Bar Association–Law Student Division and as Projects Editor of the Drake Journal of Agricultural Law. During her final year of law school, members of her graduating class awarded Brooke the Martin Tollefson Award by in recognition of her leadership and service to the law school. She also was selected by the law school faculty to receive the Most Outstanding Senior Award, which honors a student who is expected to be the most successful member of the class in leadership to the Iowa Bar.
Brooke earned her J.D. with honors in May 2006 and was admitted to practice law in the State of Iowa in September 2006. Brooke is a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association, the Iowa Employment Lawyers Association, and the Iowa Trial Lawyers Association. She has been elected as the District 5C Representative to the Iowa State Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division. She is social chair for the Polk County Women Attorneys and also serves on Drake University Law School’s Board of Counselors.
Brooke lives in West Des Moines, Iowa, with her husband Josh and daughter Lauren. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, college football, and the local Des Moines farmers' market.
